About FinanceTools
We build straightforward, reliable tools for the calculations people do every day.
What We Do
FinanceTools is a free website offering practical calculators and unit converters for health metrics and everyday measurements. Every tool runs entirely in your browser — nothing is stored on a server, and you don't need an account to use anything.
We started with one frustration: finding a clean, no-nonsense BMI calculator that didn't require you to sit through ads, pop-ups, or a sign-up wall. From there the site grew to include age calculation and a full library of unit converters covering length, weight, temperature, volume, speed, area, angle, and power.
The goal has always been the same — give you an accurate answer in seconds and get out of the way.
Our Tools
- BMI Calculator
Works in both imperial (feet, inches, pounds) and metric (centimetres, kilograms). Shows your BMI value alongside a colour-coded scale and the four standard categories — Underweight, Healthy, Overweight, and Obesity — based on thresholds published by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
- Age Calculator
Enter a date of birth and a reference date (defaulting to today) to get an exact age breakdown — years, months, days, and the total number of days lived. It also shows when the next birthday falls.
- Unit Converters
Over 30 individual converters covering length, weight, temperature, volume, speed, area, angle, and power. Each one has a live two-panel interface so you can type in either direction, a formula reference, and a table of common values.
How We Handle Accuracy
We take the numbers seriously. BMI formulas follow the NHLBI standard — 703 × weight(lb) ÷ height(in)² for imperial and weight(kg) ÷ height(m)² for metric. Category thresholds (18.5, 25, 30) match widely accepted clinical guidelines.
Unit conversion factors come from the International System of Units (SI). For example, the inch-to-centimetre factor (1 in = 2.54 cm exactly) has been fixed by international agreement since 1959. Temperature conversions use the exact mathematical definitions, not rounded approximations.
If you spot a result that looks wrong, please contact us. We review every report and correct errors promptly.
A Note on Health Information
BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. It tells you where your weight-to-height ratio sits relative to population averages, but it doesn't measure body fat directly and doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, age, or sex. A single number from a calculator is never the full picture of someone's health.
If you have questions about your weight or health, talk to a doctor or registered dietitian. Our tools are here to give you a quick reference point, not a medical opinion.
